143 Day of Kindness

Each year, Shaler Area celebrates 143 Day of Kindness, inspired by Fred Rogers, who used 143 as a shorthand for“ I love you,” based on the number of letters in each word. Our event is attended by hundreds of children and caregivers and has been emulated by others across the region.

12,250 + students reached by LIGHT

LIGHT, Leadership through Innovation in
Genocide and Human rights Teaching, connects K – 12 students to community members of all ages through themes of human rights, like being an upstander, making responsible choices, social and environmental justice, kindness, volunteerism, and humility. LIGHT has expanded to serve students across 17 school districts.
