PERSPECTIVES ON OUR PLANNING
Over the course of the last year, the Shaler Area School District undertook an extensive strategic planning process. Starting with a comprehensive community survey, we took stock of all we are currently doing and discussed our values, strengths, and opportunities for growth. With that groundwork, we hosted three community forums, where members of our community shared their experiences and thoughts for the future. We wanted to hear your perspectives and priorities. Shaler Area parent Lacie Lacie Spagnolo took part and shared,“ This collaborative journey was thoughtfully inclusive, ensuring that every voice was heard as we laid a strong foundation for our school district’ s future growth. When a community comes together with a shared vision, remarkable transformations occur. These changes will empower our children to discover and pursue their brightest futures, ensuring a positive impact for generations to come.” James Jowers, School Counselor at Shaler Area Elementary School, noted that the students and their needs were always front-and-center. He reflects,“ One of my biggest takeaways from the strategic planning process was how committed our community is to supporting the students of Shaler Area.”
Integrating this wide array of feedback, the district formulated an updated Portrait of a Titan and a refined mission and vision statement, with four powerful focus areas: career readiness and workforce development; enhanced learning opportunities; welcoming learning environments; and educating the whole child.
