Dear Shaler Area Families,
We are poised to begin a new academic year. Teachers, administrators, and staff members are busy making preparations for another dynamic year of growth. Teachers are setting up their classrooms and developing lesson plans. Our skilled facilities team is preparing the building and grounds to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for students on the first day of school. Each member of our team brings renewed energy to engage students in meaningful ways that meet them where they are and empower them to reach new heights, excelling academically.
I count it a great honor to serve our students and work alongside such a dedicated team of educators. This year, I will continue to prioritize hearing from members of our community about the issues and ideas that excite you, concern you, and intrigue you. Through reflection, collaboration, and innovation, we can continue to provide our students with an outstanding academic experience and an unparalleled community. I hope you will plan to join us at one or more of our gatherings. Here’ s to a great year ahead!
With Titan Pride,
Bryan E. O’ Black, Ed. D. Superintendent of Schools

Dear Shaler Area Community,
This summer, The Wall that Heals visited Shaler Area High School. This replica of the Vietnam Memorial was hosted through a collaboration between Shaler Township, Shaler North Hills Library, the Shaler Area School District, and countless volunteers who selflessly gave of their time to make it possible. Through your work, veterans were honored and young people gained a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made by our armed services to ensure the freedoms we hold dear. I still find myself reflecting on this event and the way that it encapsulates the extraordinary community spirit we have in Etna, Millvale, Reserve, and Shaler.
Your school board remains committed to wisely using the resources our community has entrusted us with. In June, the school board passed a budget that continues to provide exemplary instruction for our students with no increase in taxes. Thanks to funds made available through the Pennsylvania Department of Education, those that qualify for a Homestead Exemption will even see a decrease in taxes. Thank you for your sustained investment in our students and their future.
Sincerely,
A SHALER AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT COMMUNITY COLLABORATION
