PPittsburgh Botanic Garden inspires people to value plants, garden design and the natural world by cultivating plant collections of the Allegheny Plateau and temperate regions, creating display gardens, conducting educational programs and conserving the environment.

Located on the site of a former coal mine, this living museum emerged out of a decades-long effort to restore the land into a habitat for native flora and fauna. After implementing award-winning measures to mitigate acid mine drainage, Pittsburgh Botanic Garden is now a place where native plants thrive and people develop lifelong connections with the natural world and the history of the land.
In 2025, the Garden celebrated 10 years of welcoming visitors to explore, celebrate and learn about plants throughout every season. As guests meander through different garden areas, they will discover unique, pollinator-friendly plants, beneficial shrubs and trees, native wildlife and unexpected surprises that make the experience memorable. For curious plant enthusiasts, the Garden also offers a wide variety of nature-based education programs and free drop-ins to help grow garden knowledge, express creativity, and benefit from nature’ s nurturing effects.
Visitors can also join a Botany Walk & Talk to learn about seasonal plant topics, then witness the classroom principles in action on a guided walk. Guided electric cart tours are offered as well, which is a great way to learn about the plant collections and history while comfortably seated. Young nature explorers can take advantage of summer camps, school field trips, hands-on workshops and free dropin programs that teach them to develop their own interest in plants, science and hands-on learning.
