PYCO SUMMER CAMPS 2025
The Pittsburgh Youth Concert Orchestra( PYCO) invites young musicians to spend their summer making music, learning new skills and forming friendships at one of three summer camps.
• Band & Symphony Orchestra Camp( June 16-20, ages 10-14): For string, woodwind, brass and percussion students.
• Jazz Camp( July 14-18, ages 13-18): Open to all band instruments, piano, guitar, bass and drums.
• Chamber Music Camp( July 21-25, ages 13 and up): For strings, woodwind, brass, harp and piano students.
All camps meet daily from 9 a. m. to 2 p. m. at the PYCO School of Music in Wexford, and conclude with a student concert.

CELEBRATE WITH THE SHALER GARDEN CLUB THIS SUMMER
The Shaler Garden Club invites you to two exciting events this summer!
First, enjoy a day of inspiration at the 17th Annual Great Gardens Tour on Sunday, July 13, from 11 a. m. to 4 p. m. Explore five beautiful gardens while supporting the Shaler North Hills Library. Tickets are $ 20 in advance or $ 25 the day of the tour, available at the library or online.
Gardeners can also show off their green thumbs by entering the Shaler Great Local Gardens Contest. Submit five photos and a description of your garden to the library by July 1 for a chance to win and possibly be featured in a future tour! Winners will be announced at the Shaler Garden Club meeting on July 22.

STATE GRANTS FOR LOCAL FIRE AND EMS COMPANIES
State Rep. Arvind Venkat announced that nearly $ 160,000 in state grants has been awarded to fire and EMS companies in the 30th Legislative District through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
The funding will support critical needs such as equipment, training, facility upgrades and recruitment.
Grant recipients include:
• Emsworth Volunteer Fire Company Inc.: $ 14,385.41
• Franklin Park Volunteer Fire Company No. 1: $ 13,094.35
• Hampton Township Volunteer Fire Department 1: $ 12,448.81
• Highland Firemans Association: $ 15,030.95
• Ingomar Volunteer Fire Company No. 2: $ 12,458
• McCandless Franklin Park Ambulance Authority: $ 15,000
• Ohio Township Volunteer Fire Company: $ 13,739.88
• Peebles District Volunteer Fire Company: $ 16,322.02
• Ross West View EMS Authority: $ 31,322.02
• Shaler-Hampton Area Emergency Medical Services: $ 15,000
BEN AVON AND OHIO TOWNSHIP RECEIVE STATE FUNDS
A total of $ 200,000 in state funding has been awarded to organizations in Ben Avon and Ohio Township through the Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund( GEDTF), according to State Rep. Arvind Venkat.
The Avonworth Historical Society will receive a $ 100,000 grant to restore its building; make improvements to the electrical system, flooring, drywall and insulation; and for waterproofing.
Another $ 100,000 grant will go to Ohio Township for the construction of a new EMS and fire training facility.
“ Keeping residents safe, supporting organizations that improve the quality of life of our community, and helping our first responders who make it their mission to protect us are all critically important,” said Venkat.
“ These dollars are, first and foremost, investments in the people of our region. I am proud to have worked on a bipartisan basis with colleagues in the state Senate to make these investments a reality.”
GEDTF monies are facilitated by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The grants, funded through gaming revenue, provide support to municipalities, authorities, councils of governments, nonprofits and others to carry out important economic development projects.
Eligible projects promote local economic activities, create jobs, improve or create infrastructure, promote public safety, assist in workforce development or improve recreational activities.

AUBERLE CELEBRATES 37TH ANNUAL ALL- STAR BANQUET
The stars were shining brightly as Auberle celebrated the outstanding successes of many of its program participants at the 37th Annual All-Star Banquet held on March 26.
Auberle recognized the hard work, determination and resilience of participants in overcoming significant challenges.
The celebration also brought together community members and supporters to acknowledge the transformative impact of Auberle’ s programs on the lives of the individuals, families and communities it serves. n
