QUAKER VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Winners of the Bee!
Matthew Henry, a fifth grade student at Osborne Elementary
School and Reagan Fowler, a fifth grader at Edgeworth
Elementary School, won their school’s competition of the National
Geographic Bee. The school Bee, at which students answered
questions on geography, is the first round in the 30th annual
National Geographic Bee, a geography competition designed to
inspire and reward students' curiosity about the world. Thousands
of schools around the United States are participating in the 2018
Bee. The school champions will take a qualifying test; up to 100
of the top scorers on that test in each state will then be eligible
to compete in their state Bee on April 6. The National Geographic
Society will provide an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.
for state winners to participate in the Bee national championship
rounds May 20 through 23. This year marks the 30th anniversary
of the National Geographic Bee.
State Winners
Quaker Valley School District honored the state title winning
Boys Soccer Team and Football Team, along with the band and
cheerleaders, at a reception on Monday, Jan. 29, at Quaker Valley
Middle School. The reception began at 6:30 p.m. and the students
were recognized at the start of the Quaker Valley School Board
Legislative Meeting at 7 p.m.
Adopted Polar Bears
Students in second grade at Osborne
Elementary School have adopted Polar
Bears at the Pittsburgh Zoo and are
working to raise money to benefit these
animals. Part of their efforts included a
Polar Bear Dance on Friday, Feb. 9 from
6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Osborne gym. The
cost was $3 per person and all proceeds
went to the International Polar Bear
Foundation. Passes to the Pittsburgh Zoo
were also raffled off.
