Sewickley Area QUAKER VALLEY QUAKE R VAL L E Y SC HOOL DI STRI C T NE WS Quaker Valley Welcomes Bike Camps for Students With Special Needs Quaker Valley School District proudly welcomed back iBike@QV for a second year. Last year’s camp was such a success that this year QV hosted two, weeklong sessions. The goal of iBike@QV is to help students with special needs ride a traditional bike and achieve maximum independence. The activities began on Friday, June 10, with a bike-building event. More than 40 volunteers from local Target stores assembled bicycles for camp participants. Pittsburgh-area Target stores donated more than 40 new bicycles for camp participants, totaling more than $6,000. Thanks to Target’s generosity, each student rider took home a bike at the end of the camp. Additionally, Sewickley Sporting Goods donated helmets for each rider. The first bike camp began on Monday, June 13 and continued through Friday, June 17. Sessions took place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. all week. The second week of camp took place from Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 24. The iBike@QV program is part of a national organization, iCan Shine. The bicycle camp boasts an 80% success rate, meaning the majority of students leave camp at the end of the week able to ride a conventional bicycle.
