Breast Augmentation Ready or Not?

Breast Augmentation surgery is the most common surgery performed by Plastic Surgeons. Patients are often curious about what kinds of criteria are needed before they are ready for breast augmentation surgery. That is what prompted the idea to write on this very subject. We hope you will find this information to be helpful.

Women who want to improve the appearance of their breasts, seek augmentation for very personal reasons. These are normal women who want to feel better and want to be the best they can be. Some have unattractive breasts developed during adolescence, others have a large degree of variance between their breasts, making clothing selection very difficult. Still others want to improve the balance between the upper and lower portions of their bodies. Every woman has the right to want to optimize any aspect of her appearance. Breast Augmentation enhances what you already have and who you already are. This surgery works with your tissues and your desires to improve what you have.
The goal of augmentation is to improve the size and shape of your breasts. The decision to have a breast augmentation should be based on realistic personal objectives that you have discussed with your surgeon. You can have a more positive self-image and these feelings MAY allow you to project a more open, positive image to others. But the only predictable change is larger breasts. This is an operation on the breasts, not the brain. Positive psychological effects are common, but not guaranteed or necessarily even predictable. In other words, breast augmentation surgery does not guarantee that your life,( love or otherwise) will improve. You need to feel good about yourself from within and not expect an operation to give that gift.
Some other helpful things to note are that no two women are alike— their tissues are not the same. So, the breasts that are well suited for your best friend are not necessarily good for you, because of all of your differences. Using pictures to help to understand what you like is a logical approach, but one needs to be acutely aware of all of the factors making you different from the woman in the picture. We need to
understand and accept what our individual tissues will allow your body to accommodate. Remember also that when placing implants into your bra, that the bra is not your tissue and will not respond in the same way tissues will respond. Dr. Wooten will address these sorts of topics during your consultation.
Another important point to remember is when you hear, read or see something in the media or on the internet about breast implants or augmentation it may or may NOT be true.
When considering breast augmentation surgery, some thoughtful questions to consider follow.
1. Are you willing to do your homework in gathering as much credible information about the procedure?
2. Are you making this decision for yourself and not another person? 3. Are you thinking long term? 4. Do you fully understand that this surgery is not magic?
5. Are you aware that nothing material, even breast implants, last forever? 6. Can you handle the costs? 7. Are you willing to listen and follow your surgeon’ s instructions and be a cooperative patient before and after surgery?
If you answered yes to the above questions, then you are ready to schedule your initial consultation with the surgeon.
Bringing a list of questions to your appointment is very helpful. Often patients are nervous when coming to their first appointment and it is easy to forget to ask important questions.
So, now when you think about breast augmentation, are you ready or not? We would be happy to answer any questions or to schedule your appointment to meet with Dr. Anna Wooten. We look forward to your call.
