The period surroundings offer a gracious setting for luncheon with friends. Fresh flowers decorate the tables and sunlight streams through the large windows, making an upbeat atmosphere and setting the stage for lively conversation. 6 Continued from page 35 Epperson and the volunteers never lose sight of the fact that their efforts are going to help others. Just a few of the grateful recipients have included the Crisis Pregnancy Center, a ministry in Honduras, a child who is sponsored through World Vision, a family which is sponsored for a summer mission trip each year and scholarships for female ministers. The whole operation is pulled off by volunteers with the help of two chefs who are paid a nominal fee for their expertise. There are hostesses, waitresses, those who work in publicity and some retired gentlemen who have become the official dishwashers. Also impressive is that The Christy House draws volunteers from other area church congregations. “We have some ladies from other congregations who come and help as well,” says Epperson, who is proud of the fact that the ministry is an ecumenical effort. The Christy House is also available for bridal and baby showers, meetings and conferences by calling the church office at 412.741.1790. Each Friday the menu is posted outside the house at 403 Frederick Avenue. For more information on the Christy House, call 412.741.5960. 6.
