Middle School Students Raise
Nearly $3,400 for Pediatric Cancer
Programs During “Shear Da Beard”
N
orth Hills Middle School students partnered with
former Pittsburgh Steelers player Brett Keisel to
raise $3,395 for pediatric cancer programs at UPMC
Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. As part of the Middle
School Service Club’s “Shear Da Beard” event, students sold
“paper beards” with the top five highest sellers winning the
honor of “shearing” the beard of middle school science teacher
Kris Proctor.
The top five sellers were Abigail Krogmann, Alexandra Walker,
Ashley Mertz, Dominic Ozog and Lukas Hollenbeck. They also
had a Meet and Greet and autograph session with Brett Keisel
along with additional top fundraisers Connor McCarthy and
Grant Norberg.
Abigail and Alexandra also will attend Keisel’s annual sold-out
“Shear Da Beard” event at Jergel’s in Warrendale where his beard
also will be sheared.
Special thanks to high school senior Sean Nolan, a former
Children’s Hospital patient, pediatric cancer survivor and Shear
Da Beard ambassador. Sean was integral in the success of the
middle school’s event.
The Service Club is sponsored and overseen by teachers
Melissa Baird and Tina Norman.
