Not sure what to do with your kitchen scraps, leaves, and garden and yard debris? Would you like natural, home-made compost for your lawn and gardens? Expand your recycling efforts to include kitchen scraps and yard debris. MONDAYS 12:00-3:00 PM KNITTING AND CROCHETING Learn how to turn organic waste into a natural, homemade compost for lawns and gardens by attending the Pennsylvania Resources Council Backyard Composting Workshop. Composting kitchen waste and yard debris is easy to do and requires little time and effort. It also produces a complete and natural food for the soil, improving its structure, water-retaining abilities and overall health. This PA Resources Council workshop thoroughly covers the importance and benefits of composting, the process, setting up a compost pile, proper maintenance, and ways of using finished compost. Participants receive a FreeGarden EARTH compost bin with attendance. This eighty-two gallon bin is ideal for urban/ suburban areas. VISIT THE FARMERS’ MARKET THIS SUMMER (THROUGH OCTOBER)! Wednesdays, 3 pm – 7 pm This Farmer’s Market is a great example of promoting sustainability in the community. It sustains the produce and other food vendors by giving them an outlet for their products. It sustains the citizens with opportunities for fresh, locally grown produce and handmade food items. And it helps St. John’s Church in its efforts to help the Food Bank remain sustainable by providing healthy food to those in need (proceeds and food items go to the North Hills Food Bank).
