September 16 Speaker Info:
Join author and historian Thomas White as he
discusses his book Haunted Roads of Western
Pennsylvania. White will examine the legends,
history, and cultural meaning behind these
popular ghost stories. Hear the truth about the
ghosts, cults, killers and monsters that are said
to wander lonely stretches like Blue Mist Road,
Shades of Death Road, Mystery Mile, 13 Bends
Road and many others.
There are ghostly travelers who forever wander
the lonely roads of Western Pennsylvania. A
creeping fog rises from blue Mist Road, and stories
of car crashes, lynchings and even strange beasts
haunt this isolated stretch outside of Pittsburgh. Is
it the angry spirit of a jealous husband or a gypsy
king who stalks Erie County’s Axe Murder Hollow?
Shades of Death Road in Washington County may
be host to phantom coal miners killed during
a deadly labor dispute. Travel the backcountry
roads and byways of Western Pennsylvania with
author Thomas White to discover their ghost tales
and mysterious legends.

Come and experience a visit inside
an 1800 Ross log house. It was
the beginning abode for the 1834
Stewart/Schlag large and gracious
family home on Sangree Road that
was torn down in 2002.
The log house was rescued by
students from Beattie Tech.
Beginning June 5, the house will be
open, and a docent from the Ross
Township Historical Society will be
present from 2:00 until 5:00 that
Sunday afternoon. The next opening
will be June 19, followed by open
times the first and third Sundays of
the month through October.
All are welcome!
