n just six months time, more than 6,000 people of all ages
from the West View and surrounding areas have walked
through the doors of the recently opened West View
HUB to partake in its eclectic array of programs and
services for the community.
Change is constant in every community with
many older communities facing with emerging
trends that make it a challenge to retain vibrancy.
One such community in our area is West View, located
north of Pittsburgh.
West View, perhaps best known for West View Park which closed in 1977,
has seen continual decline across several areas ranging from its business
district, to its tax base and to participation with worship centers.
Last year, the Ethel Verney Foundation awarded a grant to Berkeley Hills
Lutheran Church and Scott Pavlot, Founder and Executive Director, to
establish the “West View HUB.” The vision involved creating a community
library and linking it to various organizations within the area. In doing so,
residents would have access to traditional library and technology features
along with a myriad of services delivered quietly and discreetly to those
with specific needs.
The West View HUB had its official grand opening in early June 2019,
approximately three months after receiving a grant from the Ethel Verney
