“Pay it Forward” During
Friendship Fridays
cIntyre Elementary fourth-grade students in Karrie
Schmitt’s class are learning about how good it feels to
help others and give back every week of the school year
as part of Friendship Fridays. Every Friday, the class has taken
part in a random act of kindness to brighten the days of others
around them. So far they have:
• Written thank you notes to teachers and delivered apples to
them
• Visited first-
graders to share
what they are
learning and help
them with their
studies
• Made and
delivered
Halloween crafts
as well as thank
you cards for bus
drivers
• Said hello and
smiled at as many

ROSS TOWNSHIP
people as
they could
• Left money
at a vending
machine
with a
note that
said “Pay it
Forward”
• Picked up
trash around
the school
• Toy
Donation of
gently-used
items for
Play it Forward! Pittsburgh
As well, students in the class initiated and conducted a
donation drive to benefit shelter animals. They decided to
undertake the project after being inspired by Friendship Fridays
showing they have taken their weekly lessons to heart!
