Inside the bar, patrons can enjoy video games, a dartboard and even a classic 24-ft. shuffleboard that was built in the 1940s by American Shuffleboard Company.
Kretzler’ s Tavern has also seen several menu changes through the generations. Currently, the menu includes six new burgers that are great sellers and crowd favorites. A hamburger challenge has also been launched.“ If a customer eats the whole burger( It’ s huge!), then he or she gets a free Kretzler’ s t-shirt,” says Brandon. The bar has also added 20 beers on draft.“ While there used to only be eight domestic beers on draft, we now offer a rotating 28 taps,” he adds.
With homemade food and family recipes, Kretzler’ s Tavern is a truly unique venue.“ We strive to make Kretzler’ s better than it’ s ever been by staying up on industry trends like rotating new and craft beers, and promoting seasonal menu items instead of just offering standard bar food,” Brandon explains.“ My grandfather and father passed down all of their special soup recipes, which have remained a big hit with our guests, and I’ ve been adding some of my own recipes to the mix that have been well-received. According to recent Readers’ Choice Awards, we still have the Best Fish Sandwich in the North Hills!”
With 25 to 30 employees, adults along with high school and college kids, Kretzler’ s Tavern is always ready to serve a rush of customers.“ One of the best things about growing up in the industry is that I don’ t get stressed or overwhelmed during the lunch or dinner rush, because I’ m just used to it,” says Brandon, who thrives in those hectic situations because of his childhood experiences.
While he loves the idea of a transition of Kretzler’ s Tavern to his own family, he is unsure whether his kids are interested just yet. While he’ d love to pass the torch to family, he isn’ t making it a requirement.“ My grandfather loved Ross Township and wanted to grow both his business and family in this area,” Brandon notes.“ My father shared that dream, and now I do as well.”
