AHN , A GLIMMER OF HOPE , PIRATES CHARITIES PARTNER TO BRING FREE MAMMOGRAMS TO ELIGIBLE UNDER-40 WOMEN
Pittsburgh-based breast cancer advocacy organization A Glimmer of Hope , in partnership with Pirates Charities and in cooperation with Allegheny Health Network ( AHN ), is offering free mammograms to eligible women under age 40 .
American Cancer Society recommendations call for women at average risk to begin annual mammography screening at age 45 , with the option to begin at age 40 . Mammograms detect breast cancer at its earliest stages , when it is most curable . Women may need a mammogram before age 40 for a number of reasons , including a genetic risk of breast cancer or finding a lump , but may not always have insurance to cover the cost .
Any woman under age 40 who is uninsured , or who has been denied coverage , is eligible for one of the no-cost mammograms , which will be provided by clinicians at AHN Allegheny General Hospital .
“ Caring for younger women who are at risk for breast cancer is a cause that is near to our hearts . We want to do all that we can to help them through this journey ,” said Diana Napper , founder and president , A Glimmer of Hope Foundation . “ We are thrilled to partner with Pirates Charities and AHN to bring this important service to younger women in need .”
“ We thank A Glimmer of Hope and Pirates Charities for this important donation that will mean so much to younger women in need
