Recently named 2022 Associated Hair Professionals ( AHP ) Indie Barber of the Year , David Peters is a barber who goes above and beyond the norm at his shop in Ross Township . Peters , 31 , grew up in Swissvale and is in the process of moving to Allison Park . He graduated from Woodland Hills High School in 2009 and then attended the Barber School of Pittsburgh from 2018 to 2019 .
“ Since I was a child , I have always been fascinated with barbershops ,” says Peters . “ My late father would take me every three weeks with him to get haircuts . When I mentioned my love for barbershops , my barber at the time suggested barber school .”
Peters has traveled to Ohio and Florida for a ton of handson and class training to advance his skills and career . In June , he traveled to Orlando to accept his award as 2022 AHP Indie Barber of the Year .
To be considered for this accolade , Peters entered a contest and wrote a short essay about his time with the Pitt football team and volunteering to barber the players at the team ’ s South Side facility . Peters has also worked with a few members of the Pittsburgh Penguins — Jason Zucker , Dominik Simon and Louis Domingue — as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers ’ Blaine Stewart , and NFL or potential NFL players , including Mason Cole , JP Holtz , Lucas Krull and Johnny Petrishen .
“ AHP was interested in how I grew my business in such a short time — I opened September 1 of 2021 — and how I ’ m working to change the industry in Pittsburgh ,” he says . “ It meant a lot to be selected and to be on the cover of their magazine . It shows that hard work and dedication does indeed pay off . It ’ s such an honor to have shared a stage with some of the top barbers and stylists in the industry .”
Peters ’ services are aimed at giving clients a relaxing and enjoyable experience .
“ Men don ’ t really get that experience at big shops ,” he explains . “ My shop is a place that parents love to bring their children . I focus on the trendy styles but still can provide the traditional men ’ s cuts that everyone loves .”
Peters ’ shop offers haircuts with and without beard services as well as men ’ s facials and scalp and beard treatments . Peters also provides complimentary eyebrow trims along with hot towel and shampooing . “ It ’ s important to me that I provide the Pittsburgh area with reliable and consistent service ,” he says .
The shop is located in the My Salon Suites on McKnight Road . “ I chose to open my shop here because my wife , Amber , is from the area and it ’ s a great place to raise a family ,” he adds . “ From a business standpoint there aren ’ t really any true barbershops in the area . I wanted to give Ross Township a place where men can come and get a great haircut .” n
