Drew Karpen’ s Dedication and Positive Impact Celebrated
Last fall, WPIAL asked members of the public to share their stories of school leaders who not only won games, but invested in players, encouraged excellence, and cultivated character. One name kept coming up: Plum Borough School District Athletic Director Drew Karpen. To share Mr. Karpen’ s proven track record of making a positive impact, WPIAL recently featured him in an athletic spotlight.
WPIAL noted,“ Drew Karpen is known for the energy and positivity he brings to Mustang athletics. Students, parents, and coaches say his leadership goes beyond wins and losses— it’ s about the relationships he builds every day.”
‘ The best part of my job is spending time with our student-athletes and coaches,’ Drew shared.‘ Seeing them grow, succeed, and keep chasing their passion at the next level is what makes it all worth it.’

PMS Student Publishes Novel
When Wisdom Fayomi was stuck at home during pandemic lockdowns he was bored. Wisdom recalls,“ Back in 2020, I was 8 years-old and I was really bored because I was staying in the house all day. I basically watched all the videos on YouTube.” Wisdom’ s dad gave him a suggestion:“ Why don’ t you write a book?” Wisdom notes,“ Of course, since I was 8, I had the attention span of a goldfish, so it took me a long time.” However, he persevered through the writing, editing, and even a draft lost in a move.
Now, as a seventh-grader, Wisdom is a published author. His book, Diary of Schatten, is available through Kindle and Barnes & Noble. Wisdom was recognized for his accomplishment by the school board and is already well into writing a sequel.
