Plum Boro BOROUGH OF PLUM NEWS
Oakmont Country Club, despite its name, lies almost entirely in Plum Borough. The club, which opened in 1903, is home to one of the most storied eighteen-hole championship golf courses in the world. The renowned difficulty of the course, coupled with its deep history, has made it a popular host to many of golf’ s most respected events.
Oakmont Country Club is situated along Hulton Road, in a predominantly residential area of Plum Borough, adjacent to the municipal border with Oakmont Borough. The Pennsylvania Turnpike, which runs perpendicular to Hulton Road, essentially splits the golf course in half. Access to each side of the course is maintained through two pedestrian bridges which span the width of the Pennsylvania Turnpike’ s right of way.
The 2025 U. S. Open is a seven-day event consisting of three days of practice rounds beginning Monday, June 9 th and concluding Wednesday June 11 th. The two preliminary rounds of the championship will be played on Thursday June 12 th and Friday June 13 th, with the final rounds being played the following two days on Saturday June 14 th and Sunday June 15 th. Due to limited on-site parking facilities, the vast majority of spectators will shuttle to the event from various off-site parking locations. It is the goal of the public safety committee to keep Hulton Road as free of vehicular and pedestrian traffic as possible to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
The Plum Borough Police Department is the law enforcement agency with primary jurisdictional authority for the event. Due to the department’ s size, it is unable to independently address all public safety concerns associated with an international sports event. For this reason, the Plum Borough Police Department has enlisted the Allegheny County Police Department, the Allegheny County Sheriff’ s Office, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Oakmont Borough Police Department, as well as numerous federal agencies to assist with the coordination and deployment of public safety assets for this event.
Residents should prepare for an influx of visitors to the borough. Typical traffic patterns may be disrupted.
