Plum Borough School District PLUM BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS NEWS

Dear Plum Borough Community,
As we mark the halfway point of the academic year and begin a new calendar year, it is an ideal time for reflection and renewed commitment.
Looking ahead into 2026, it is important to celebrate our accomplishments and focus on future goals.
Celebrating First Semester Achievements and Looking Ahead
I am incredibly proud of the Mustang learning community’ s achievements this past semester. Our students have acquired new skills, tackled challenging concepts, collaborated effectively, and made meaningful contributions to our community. These successes serve as powerful motivation as we move into the second half of the school year. We will continue to reevaluate our goals for student success and ensure they have the resources to reach their potential.
Curriculum and Future Planning
Our commitment to continuous improvement is evident in the ongoing work of our K – 12 math vertical team, which is conducting an extensive program review. This comprehensive process includes needs assessments, data collection, resource evaluation, and identifying opportunities to enhance student achievement. We anticipate this team will present its recommendations to the School Board in April for consideration in the next school year.
Building on the foundation of our collaboratively developed Portrait of a Graduate, which defines the essential attributes a Mustang should possess upon graduation, we are continuing a vital dialogue regarding reimagining secondary education in our middle and high school. By clearly establishing our intended outcome, we can strategically determine the best trajectory for achieving it. We will be seeking input from both internal and external stakeholders over the next semester. This feedback will focus on identifying opportunities to improve our students’ learning environment. Groundbreaking at O’ Block Elementary School
The recent groundbreaking ceremony for the O’ Block Elementary School addition marked a significant moment, reflecting our community’ s growth and the district’ s commitment to providing excellent student facilities. This comprehensive renovation is the product of careful planning and diligent stewardship. The renovation

is designed to transform the learning experience with more functional spaces to support project-based learning and expanded areas for performing arts. Crucially, the updates prioritize accessibility and special education services, ensuring all students benefit. While some improvements, such as updated HVAC and fire-protection systems, won’ t be immediately noticeable, they are vital for providing safe student well-being. Other changes, like reconfigured drop-off and pick-up areas, will have a clear and positive impact on the daily flow of school operations. We are committed to providing you with updates on this project’ s progress in the months ahead.

Our Commitment to Support
Every member of the Plum Borough School District team is dedicated to helping our students achieve and excel, ensuring they finish the academic year stronger than ever. We are here to provide essential support, guidance, and resources. If students need academic assistance, emotional support, or simply a listening ear, we strongly encourage parents to reach out to their child’ s teacher, building administration, or pupil services department.
As we continue into this new year, let us remember that we are all partners in our students’ success. By working together, we can create a brighter future for all. Let’ s maintain our collective commitment to learning, growing, and striving for excellence together.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rick Walsh Superintendent of Schools
