BORO SNAPSHOT
P
lum Boro is one of the
largest communities
in Western PA
covering nearly 30
square miles with
roughly 30,000 residents and
11,000 households and we are
growing. We have experienced
positive population growth
every year for the past 20+
years. Although Plum has grown
significantly, approximately ½
of the Boro is still undeveloped
farms and greenspace.
Plum is home to many new
home communities and historic
old towns. We have miles of
riverfront, hundreds of acres of
parks and preserved open space,
ski slopes and the most famous
golf course in the world (yes, it’s
entirely in Plum!).
The average household in
Plum pays approximately $125
per month or $1,500 annually
in total taxes and user fees to
the Boro. This amount does
not include the taxes paid to
the Plum Boro School District
and Allegheny County. These
separate governments collect
an additional $7,000 per year
in taxes from the average
Plum household. For 2019,
the Boro has budgeted nearly
$19,000,000 for your local
government services. This
equates to roughly $1,700
per family over the next 12
months to provide public
safety, roads, parks and
recreation services. 90% of
these services are funded by
our local tax dollars.
The $19M in expenditures for
2019 are necessary to maintain
the over 300 lane-miles of roads,
100 acres of park and public
space and provide police, fire
and EMS for 30,000 people. The
Boro is directly responsible for
maintaining and constructing
Boro and PA roads, police
protection, parks & recreation
services, building inspection,
tax collection, garbage, storm
water management, etc. with a
staff of 70 full-time employees
consisting of 27 police officers,
24 public works employees, 6
building inspection and code
enforcement specialists and 7
administrative
professionals.
The Boro is not directly
responsible for providing
water or sewer services, fire
protection and emergency
medical services, however, we
do support them in various
ways, and we have fantastic
relationships with the Water &
Sewer Authority and the Fire and
EMS services.
