Thousands of Grant Dollars Awarded to Plum Teachers

As school funding remains very tight in the state of Pennsylvania, many Plum Borough School District teachers and administrators have found ways to fund their creative and innovative ideas …. to the tune of $ 19,000 +. Teachers from all six school buildings have earned grant money ranging from a hundred dollars to many thousands of dollars.
Grants have been received from a wide variety of organizations; some local including PPG, Allegheny Intermediate Unit, Highmark, DonorsChoose, Exxon, PATTAN and EcoCycle to name a few. And, requests to apply for other grants continue to roll into the office of the Assistant Superintendent.

These grant monies have been used for many unique and creative purposes. Some of the grant money was used to support a building initiative implementing a new positive behavior recognition plan. Much of the money is funding STEM projects across the district including a“ Grow” room at Regency Park Elementary and aquaponics centers at Oblock Junior High and Regency Park Elementary. Some of the teachers and administrators have been awarded grants to purchase 3-D printers which are then used in STEM or technology classes for students to create new designs. Lastly, Finch robots, Ozobots, Dots and Dash robots and others have been purchased to support students in their quest to learn coding. The Plum Borough School District is very proud of these teachers and administrators who continue to go the“ extra mile” for the students. lum Borough
