Plum Borough School District Celebrates First Annual Mustang R. I. S. E. Program Graduation
On the evening of May 7th, the Plum Senior High School Library was filled with pride, joy, and well-deserved celebration as the Plum Special Education Department hosted its first annual Mustang R. I. S. E. Program graduation ceremony. This milestone event brought together graduates and their families, dedicated staff, community partners, Assistant Superintendents Drs. Boyers and Thomas, and Plum Mayor Harry Schlegel to honor a remarkable group of young adults who have worked tirelessly to build the skills and confidence needed to thrive beyond high school.
The Mustang R. I. S. E. Program— Recognizing Individual Strengths and Experiences— supports young adults in developing the tools essential for adult living, employment, and community participation. Through individualized instruction and meaningful real-world experiences, students in the program build workplace
GOLD CARD PROGRAM
Plum Borough School District offers its Gold Card program to all Plum residents who are 65 years of age or older.
The Gold Card program includes the following for each member:
1. One( 1) free admission ticket to any * District-sponsored athletic event.
2. One( 1) free admission ticket to any District-sponsored musical performance.
There is no fee to be a part of the Gold Card program. Proof of residency is required at the time of application.
* Playoff and Final events do not qualify.

readiness, self-advocacy, and daily living skills, all while engaging in job training opportunities and forging partnerships with local businesses and adult service agencies. The graduation ceremony was a powerful testament to what becomes possible when a community rallies around its students and refuses to place limits on what they can achieve.
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of the community partners whose collaboration has been integral to the program’ s success. C. A. R. E. S. of Western Pennsylvania, Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Plum Library, Plum Community Center, and Spectrum Fudge were all honored for their invaluable roles in helping R. I. S. E. students gain real-world experience and build pathways to independence. These partnerships reflect the very best of what a community can be: neighbors investing in neighbors, and local organizations stepping up to ensure that every young person has a chance to contribute, grow, and belong.
As the first graduating class of the Mustang R. I. S. E. Program, these young adults carry with them not only the skills they have developed but also the knowledge that their school, their families, and their entire community stood behind them every step of the way. For the Plum Borough School District, this ceremony was more than a graduation— it was a declaration that every student’ s journey matters, and that the Mustang community will always rise together.
