TRY A FAMILY FOOD RESCUE!
Looking for a meaningful activity with your kids for the remainder of summer? Sign up for a food rescue through 412 Food Rescue, Pittsburgh’ s award-winning nonprofit that connects places with surplus food to volunteers who can deliver it to local nonprofits that feed people in need.
Using an easy-to-navigate app, families can choose quick, one-hour rescues that work with their schedules. It’ s a hands-on way for kids— from toddlers to teens— to learn about food waste, hunger and community impact. Bonus: older kids can earn volunteer hours or build experience for school, jobs or driving requirements.
As CEO Alyssa Cholodofsky puts it,“ It’ s never too early to show children the power they have for good.”

POINT PARK UNIVERSITY AWARDED $ 450K GRANT
Point Park University’ s School of Education has received a $ 450,000 PAsmart Advancing Grant from the
STEP INTO THE ICE AGE AT THE PITTSBURGH ZOO & AQUARIUM!
The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium is transporting guests back in time with its newest temporary exhibit,“ Ice Age: Frozen in Time,” on display through Sept. 1.
The immersive experience brings the frozen world of the Pleistocene epoch to life with more than 50 lifelike animated creatures including
Pennsylvania Department of Education to support Career and Technical Education( CTE) across the state.
The grant— one of fewer than 20 Innovation Grants awarded from nearly 200 applicants— will fund efforts to expand access to high-quality STEM education by strengthening the preparation and certification of CTE educators.
Led by Dr. Linda Hippert, the project focuses on faculty development, outreach, in-practice learning, and collaboration with regional CTE directors. The initiative aims to ensure that Pennsylvania’ s teaching workforce is ready to train students for growing careers in fields like engineering, computer science, AI, and health care.
“ This grant affirms our commitment to building a strong, innovative teaching workforce in Pennsylvania,” said Point mammoths, saber-tooth cats, woolly rhinos and dodo birds. Realistic sights, sounds and movements help recreate what life was like millions of years ago— right down to snorts, grunts and mammoth-size rumbles.
The 12-foot-tall animatronic mammoth serves as the exhibit’ s showstopper, but visitors of all ages will enjoy exploring how these prehistoric animals survived extreme conditions and how their evolution connects to modern wildlife and biodiversity. For more details, visit pittsburghzoo. org.
