MEET AMY BROOKS
P
lum Rotary Club is proud to sponsor author and
motivational speaker Amy Brooks. Amy was born with
an extremely rare condition called Tetraphocomelia -
having no arms or legs.
Can you imagine being born without arms or legs?
What would be the quality of your life? How would you cope?
What would your attitude or personality be like? How about the
depth of your humor, the level of your faith or your compassion
for others?
Meet the lovely Amy Brooks
Amy is a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh who attended
Northgate High School. She is a joyful, exuberant and faithful
Christian whose writing honors her adoptive family and their
love for her.
She will be speaking at the Plum Community Center located
at 499 Center-New Texas Road on Monday, September 30, at
7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and light refreshments will be
served. There is no fee to attend but we do ask that you register
at [email protected]. She will also have available copies of
her books, art and purses.
Amy will challenge and inspire you in a way that promises to
change your life forever!

LEAF AND YARD
WASTE PICK-UP
eaf Pickup will begin on October 15 and
end on December 6. Pick-ups will be the
day after your scheduled garbage pickup
day except for Monday November 11
(Veterans Day), and Thursday and Friday,
November 28 and 29 (Thanksgiving). If your pickup
falls on one of these days, it will be moved to the
following week. If your garbage is picked up on
Friday, your leaf pickup will be on Monday.
Please DO NOT call if your leaves are not picked
up, especially during peak season. Sometimes the
entire scheduled route is not completed, in which
case crews will be there the next day.
DO NOT place leaf piles in the street as they
impede the flow of water to the inlets. DO NOT
block leaf piles with vehicles or place near mailbox
or on other sides of a fenced area. Any piles placed
in such manner will not be picked up.
Last year the snow came early and public works
was forced to transition to winter maintenance
sooner than expected. Should this happen again
this year, residents may bring their leaves to
the Borough’s compost facility located behind
the Borough Building. Leaves must be placed in
biodegradable bags and no plastic bags.
Composted leaf material is also available at the
Borough Building for anyone who wishes to use it
as mulch. You are welcome to take as much as you
want. However, you must load the material yourself.
Simply stop at the front reception area and you will
be directed to the loading area.
Yard waste recycling service will take place
on the third Saturday of September, October
and November. This includes the collection of
shrubbery, chipped shrubbery, tree trimmings and
garden residue (if there is no dirt attached). Yard
waste must be less than four feet in length and
three inches in diameter. Grass clippings will not be
picked up. To be placed on the list for pickup please
contact Republic Services at 877.788.9400 no later
than the Wednesday before the third Saturday of
the month. When you call please tell the customer
service representative that you are a resident of
Plum Borough.
