S
ummer is rapidly approaching its end, and back-to-school season
is on the horizon. For many high schoolers, it will soon be time to
look at post-high-school education options. The majority of high
schoolers will be considering a four-year college or university,
but we ask them to consider other options. In 2015, 66% of high school
graduates enrolled in higher education right after high school. However,
many of these new college students came to find out that college just
was not right for them. Those who finish often find that their degree
has not adequately prepared them for their chosen field of work. More
students are going to college than ever before, but often they are
unaware of job options in the technical fields that require skilled training.
In 2018, about 57% of all available jobs were technical jobs that required
skills and training at the credential or associate degree level. Highly
trained and skilled technicians are in great demand for the current labor
market. A highly skilled tradesman can potentially make a higher salary
than a bachelor’s degree holder for a much lower cost of education.
The automotive industry is currently suffering a serious shortage of
skilled technicians to perform much-needed vehicle maintenance and
repairs. If you are thinking
