(855) 801-8995 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012 WyndhamVacationRentals.com count my late introduction to golf as one of those great life surprises that you don’t see coming. I was fascinated by the complexity of the game, the richness of its history and the wonderful way it brings people together. That was more than a decade ago, and I still find myself mesmerized.  As a writer, I have been extremely lucky to get an inside look and spend time with so many colorful characters in and around the greens. I have skied with David Duval as he snowboarded in Sun Valley (on assignment for Sports Illustrated), talked shop with Golf Channel’s hilarious Brandel Chamblee in an Arizona Steelers bar, and accompanied Charles Barkley for a round at Michael Jordan’s Celebrity Invitational. I met one of my best friends, Judy Street—a former Curtis Cup player—now 72—because at age 60, she went back to college and played for the Barry University golf team. She was the oldest NCAA competitor ever. Together we spent a magical two weeks golfing in Scotland, and a wager-winning bogie on the Road Hole at St. Andrews scores high on my life’s highlight reel. Last year, she was the maid of honor at my wedding. I have an entire shelf of golf books written by people I now call friends. Alan Shipnuck and Gary Van Sickle, both fabulous national magazine writers and both in this issue, have been pals since the days we met … covering golf. I am grateful for the long list of wonderful people I have experienced through the game. And I am thrilled that the Sequoia Golf family has asked me to help them bring some of the joy that is their everyday world to IN PLAY. My hope is that in these pages you will experience and enjoy those same things that we alI love about the sport—and especially the people who make it great.
