Jessica Davis and Carley Greenawalt share similar backgrounds in that both of them have been performing at high levels athletically for years, but found that personal trainers and physical therapists catering to their athletic needs were few and far between. So together they created Perform Physio, a physical therapy provider catering to all orthopedic and high- performing athletes. “I used to dance for Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and have had personal injuries and conditions related to dance that other therapists, who weren’t familiar with dance, were not able to treat,” Dr. Davis said. “I wanted to make a difference and keep dancers dancing.” Dr. Greenawalt has been competing in track and field and equestrian events from a young age. Knowing that she wanted to pursue medicine, she found that she could spend the most time with and help more patients as a therapist. As a competitive barrel racer, she also specializes in treating patients who may suffer injuries from equestrian pursuits. “I work mostly with high-performance athletes, and coach CrossFit as well. We both treat all orthopedic injuries and are both trained in manual therapy, each with the highest certifications you can get in manual therapy,” Dr. Greenawalt said. “Because we’re an out-of-network practice, we have the ability to see patients 100 percent of the time for one-on-one treatment. In traditional physical therapy, you see the therapist for maybe 15 minutes. With us, you get the full hour.” In addition to both being doctors of physical therapy, Davis and Greenawalt are also teachers. Dr. Davis is currently an assistant professor and assistant director of clinical education with Duquesne University. She is also on the faculty of the Institute of Clinical 34 724.942.0940 TO ADVERTISE ❘ icmags.com Excellence where she is lead faculty for the Performing Arts Division, teaching other therapists from all over the country how to treat unique and debilitating injuries that arise from dancing. Dr. Greenawalt is an adjunct professor in the Slippery Rock University Physical Therapy Department, teaching Education, Prevention, and Wellness, a class focused on providing individual wellness programs for patients in addition to traditional physical therapy treatments. Together, at Perform Physio, these accomplished professionals offer orthopedic physical therapy, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, cupping, kinesio taping, functional movement screens, and specifically designed CrossFit and Dancer Recovery packages. The practice also offers personal training services and yoga. Patients have the option of paying for sessions one at a time or by purchasing a package of sessions at a reduced rate. And while Perform Physio is out of network, it does participate with HSAs, and patients who have out-of-network benefits as part of their insurance plans may be able to apply their payments to their deductibles.
