ONE-OF-A-KIND CAR DONATION PROGRAM Community Auto, part of The Lighthouse Foundation, is a nonprofit low income car ownership program. It accepts donated cars, repairs and inspects them if necessary, then sells them to qualified working low-income people at discounted prices, as compared to a regular used car dealership. According to the organization, it is the only one of its kind in western PA that puts cars back into the hands of families in the Greater Pittsburgh area. The used car sitting in the garage that you didn’t sell because it was a hassle, the car that didn’t get the trade-in value you wanted, or the one the kids used for school but is no longer needed would be a perfect car to donate. Your generous donation is the fuel for the program and is tax deductible. Contact Community Auto at communityautolico.org or at 724.538.5081 to find out how to donate your car and give a family a hand toward self-sufficiency. Lori Mizgorski (R-Allegheny) advocated for a $187,000 grant that was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The funding will provide additional healthy living activities for visitors to the park. “I was happy to help secure this funding for Richland Township,” says Mizgorski. “This funding will help restore and protect the streambank of Deer Creek.” The funding will be used to help complete a streambank restoration and protection project along the West Branch of Deer Creek using 1,300 square yards of high performance turf reinforcement matting, native tree plantings and other re-vegetation to restore and protect the currently eroded streambank. The total project cost is $220,000. The CFA was established as an independent agency of the Commonwealth and holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth. ZIPCAR CALLS ON STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS NATIONWIDE TO ENTER ‘STUDENTS WITH DRIVE’ COMPETITION Across the country, college and university student organizations make an impact by distributing health care supplies overseas, protecting the environment, tutoring and mentoring students, or icmags.com hosting dance-offs to fundraise for a cause. These are just a few ways students are making a difference in their communities, both on and off campus. To support the next generation of mission-driven leaders, Zipcar, the world’s leading car-sharing network and the largest campus car-sharing provider, recently announced the 2019 winner of Students with Drive, the University of Michigan’s Blueprints for Pangaea chapter, and is kicking off its 8th annual contest, calling on student organizations from coast to coast to enter. Students with Drive first launched in October 2011 to support student organizations that need access to transportation to move their mission forward. For nearly 20 years, Zipcar has been a critical component of campus transportation and sustainability initiatives, providing students, faculty, and staff access to Zipcars to pursue off-campus activities, enriching the student life experience and supporting a university’s impact on the community. Since Students with Drive first launched, Zipcar has given more than $1 million in funding to empower 400 student groups across the country. Are you a Student with Drive? Enter now! To be considered for Students with Drive, interested student organizations should enter by Oct. 31 and submit a statement that addresses their passion for their organization’s mission, along with an explanation of how Zipcar can help drive the organization further. A panel of judges will review the submissions, and the top 10 entrants will receive $300 to cover access to a Zipcar and a $500 gift card to create a video demonstrating the community’s need and how the student organization will address this need
