AQUINAS ACADEMY STUDENTS EARN AWARDS AT PJAS COMPETITION Aquinas Academy middle and high school students recently competed in the Region 7 Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) competition at Duquesne University. Fifteen students earned awards: High School — 1st Place: John Reed (Mars), Katie O’Connell (Natrona Heights), Christina Koman (Ross); 2nd Place: Luke Lynch (Richland). Middle School — 1st Place: Scarlett Hudson (Sewickley), Sophia Henry (Aspinwall), Susan Meland (Shaler); 2nd Place: Lena Sharara (Pittsburgh), Annamarie Hart (Aspinwall), Catherine Cable (Treesdale), Paige Indovina (Treesdale), Catherine Richthammer (Hampton), Lillian Ebeling-Koning (Hampton), Emma Kunzmann (McCandless); 3rd Place: Nathaniel Jernigan (Sewickley). Three students were presented with special awards: Christina Koman received the Bechtel Award, John Reed received $100 from the American Nuclear Society - Pittsburgh Section, and Scarlett Hudson received the Award for Excellence in Chemistry and Biochemistry. PINE-RICHLAND FIELD HOCKEY SUMMER PROGRAM On Thursday evenings from June 16 to July 28, field hockey players from beginner to varsity levels are invited to join a fun and popular summer field hockey program. Prior experience is not required, as players will be grouped by grade and ability. Sessions are led by Pine-Richland field hockey coaches and former club players with collegiate playing experience. In addition to field hockey, prizes will be awarded for various weekly contests including silly sock week, crazy hair night, get soaked sessions and water balloon launches. Players are not required to attend all weeks to participate.
