SONG & DANCE HIGHLIGHT PRMS RENDITION OF
‘FOOTLOOSE’
Pine-Richland Middle School students took audience members back to the 1980s
with their production of “Footloose.” The musical is based on the 1984 movie and
follows lead character Ren and his mother’s move from Chicago to a small farming
town, where Ren finds it tough to adjust to the local way of life—which includes a ban
on dancing. In all, 74 students took to the stage with lively song and dance numbers.
Eighth-graders Logan Kusar and Ruby McCune oversaw the production as student
directors with the help of 29 student crewmembers.
“We saw a lot of talent showcased,” said Logan. “The students improved so much and
showed so many different levels of talent than they have before.”
Ruby added that the musical is almost like a high school production and they really
worked hard to relay the ‘80s theme. “There was a lot of energy and fun,” she said.
“The cast was so great and the excitement was so amazing that no one wanted the
production to end.”
Many parents were involved, including the lead production folks—Angela Gross,
who served as the production’s director; Mary Lynn Dugan as the show’s producer; Lee
Ann Bruno as choreographer; Sabrina George as costume designer; and Chris Martin
as the stage designer.
