PRMS DRAMA CLUB SHOWCASES TALENT IN ANNUAL MUSICAL
Pine-Richland Middle School students recently performed“ Once Upon A Mattress,” an adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale“ The Princess and the Pea.” Performances were held Feb. 1 through 3.
This year’ s program featured 66 costumed characters, 100 crew members and lots of talent under the direction of Noreen Daniello and producer Mary Lynn Dugan.“ After doing several contemporary shows, we wanted to get back to the oldies,” says Daniello.“ This year’ s musical is a classic.”
Additionally, the show provided an opportunity for students to learn outside the classroom.“ Students learned about educational theater,” explains Daniello.“ They took a classic and reworked it. It was an opportunity to infuse English education into their performance.”
Students enjoyed the challenge of physical humor.“ I loved this role,” says eighth grader Trisha Holmes, who played the princess.“ I feel like I really connected. I love comedy.”
