ANNUAL AFTERNOON
JAMFEST
The fun and entertainment are back
again this year as the Spina Bifida
Association of Western Pennsylvania
(SBAWP) hosts its 5th Annual Afternoon
JamFest at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille in
Warrendale on Saturday, March 24,
from 1 to 5 p.m. This “friend-raiser”
event will feature great music and great
prizes—all for a great cause! The JamFest
entertainment will be provided by
Madeline Rae & The Daisy Chain.

Association of Western PA’s Girlfriends
for Good Annual Purse Bash is a
testament to the impact women can
make.
The Purse Bash, which was held on
Nov. 4, was bigger, better and busier
than ever before. Attendees enjoyed an
assortment of spirits, hors d’oeuvres,
vendors, auction items, mystery grab bags
and wine pulls—as well as a chance to
win designer purses and accessories. The
organization thanks Karen Brackett and
Norma Liebenguth for entertaining as
emcees again this year.

Bash on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018.
consisted of a five-minute career overview
and two to three hands-on activities
using the equipment from the field. Fifth
graders were able to learn how to patch
drywall, program a humanoid robot,
use a virtual welder and painter, work
on strength training, and learn how
to backboard an injured person. The
career sessions were led by students who
are attending AWBCC and provided
leadership opportunities for those
students.

CENTER
A.W. Beattie Career Center (AWBCC)
has been providing career exploration
to elementary schools for the past three
years as part of a career readiness plan.
AWBCC students and staff visited
Pine-Richland’s Eden Hall Upper
Elementary School this past December
to provide hands-on experience to fifth
grade students in nine career fields. The
students also attended a STEAM and
Careers talk that gave an overview of 20
career programs at AWBCC.
Students were able to rotate through
45-minute sessions that included
Emergency Response Technology,
Carpentry/Building Construction,
Health and Dental Science, Automotive
Collision Repair, Computer Repair
and Programming, Engineering Design
and Advanced Manufacturing, Sports
Medicine, Science Technology and Early
Childhood Education. Each session

PLANT SALE
Greybrooke Garden Club will hold
a spring plant sale on Friday, May 11,
from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at McCandless
Crossing, in the grassy area within the
circle in front of Bonefish Grill, between
Old Navy and Ethan Allen. Hanging
baskets, perennials, annuals with some
in decorative pots, miscellaneous garden
supplies and more will be available.
Proceeds help support the club’s annual
donations to conservancy groups and
worthy community organizations. For
