WHAT’ S NEWS IN PINE-RICHLAND
GIBSONIA NATIVE TRAINS WITH NAVY’ S ELITE RESCUE SWIMMERS
Gibsonia’ s Ryan Geyer, a 2020 graduate of Pine-Richland High School, is serving our country and training to become an aviation rescue swimmer with the U. S. Navy in Pensacola, Florida.
Assigned to the Navy’ s Aviation Rescue Swimmer School( ARSS), Geyer is learning the skills needed to perform high-risk rescues in the most extreme conditions— jumping from helicopters, braving rough seas and saving lives under pressure.
“ I felt a higher calling,” says Geyer.“ Serving in the Navy makes me feel honorable.”
As part of the world’ s most elite emergency response force, aviation rescue swimmers live by the motto“ So others may live.”
Geyer credits his upbringing in Gibsonia for shaping the values that help him succeed— respect, hard work and putting others first.
With the Navy celebrating its 250th anniversary this year, Geyer is proud to be part of a force that protects global freedom and commerce around the clock.
“ Completing rescue swimmer school will mean a lot to me,” he says.“ We work hard, but it will all be worth it when I graduate.”
