the tee and work mechanics . During winter , I do more weight training . I get my body in shape and stronger . I train for athleticism . This includes eating a healthy diet of protein and lots of fruits and veggies .”
Outside of softball , she enjoys writing and spending time with her family , their dogs , Duke and Beans , and her friends . She also enjoys seeing new places , noting that travel softball has offered her “ the opportunity to see different towns and make some fun memories . I love the adventure , even if it ’ s just a cool bike ride .”
But next season is already in her sights , and she cannot wait to get started . “ High school softball is so much better than I ever imagined ,” says June . “ It ’ s so great to play with this group of amazing girls . It really takes every one of us to win games . Whether it ’ s Gabe throwing 15 strikeouts one day , Jocelyn diving for a catch to save a game another day , or everyone on the team hitting , we all contribute . I ’ m superproud to be a Ram and to play with these girls every day .”
And after high school , June wants to continue playing the game in college . “ One million percent ! It ’ s been my dream , well , more like a goal now ,” she says . “ It ’ s just a matter of time . My life , and a lot of my family ’ s time , has been focused on helping me improve my chances for a scholarship to play in college . I ’ m so excited for that next step .”
In the meantime , June is going to return to Pine- Richland and help her team in the upcoming season : “ I would like for our team to compete at its best . I would love to win the WPIAL , and with hard work and good team chemistry , I believe it ’ s possible .” n
As catcher for the Pine-Richland High School girls varsity softball team , sophomore June McCune , 15 , is already rated a 3-star recruit by OnDeck Softball .
