NHCO FALL EVENTS
North Hills Community Outreach will be offering many fun-filled programs and events for all ages. Below are just a few! Visit nhco. org for a more complete list of upcoming events and more information.
Financial Donations to NHCO Can Be Matched
An anonymous donor is once again providing a dollar-for-dollar match for financial contributions to North Hills Community Outreach. The first $ 25,000 in financial donations made by individual donors between July 1 and Dec. 31 will be matched. About 40 percent of NHCO’ s donations come from individuals, and 86 percent of funds go directly to serve local families in crisis, hardship and poverty. Donations can be made online at nhco. org / donate or sent to NHCO, 1975 Ferguson Road, Allison Park, 15101.
Fresh Produce From Gardens Accepted at NHCO’ s Pantries
North Hills Community Outreach has always welcomed fresh produce donations for our clients. To make it easier for local gardeners to donate produce, NHCO has joined AmpleHarvest. org, a nationwide program working to end fresh food waste and hunger. AmpleHarvest. org enables local backyard / community gardeners to easily locate neighborhood food pantries to share their excess garden bounty with neighbors in need.
Millions of backyard gardeners across the United States frequently find that their vegetable, fruit, herb and nut gardens provide far more produce than they can possibly use or share with friends. The remainder is often left to waste.
AmpleHarvest. org enables food pantries to register their name, phone, address, an optional photograph of the pantry to make it easier to find, and day [ s ] and time [ s ] they can accept the gardeners’ produce. Please visit AmpleHarvest. org for more information and to locate NHCO’ s three pantries.
Food Donations Needed at NHCO
North Hills Community Outreach’ s three food pantries serve 1,400 local families each year. Often the pantries do not get enough donations to keep the shelves stocked, but the same number of people are served. Financial donations are also crucially needed. Please consider holding a food drive or donating nonperishable, unexpired, unopened food or paper products. Recycled plastic and paper grocery bags are also needed. Donations may be dropped off at any NHCO office, Monday through Friday, 9 a. m. to 4 p. m., including the main office at 1975 Ferguson Road, Allison Park, 15101, and NHCO North Boroughs, AGH-Suburban Campus, 100 S. Jackson Avenue, Bellevue, or alternate arrangements can be made. For more information, please contact Erica at emcochran @ nhco. org or 412.487.6316 opt. 1 x 3144.

MARTIN NEAL WINS WOODROW WILSON NATIONAL FELLOWSHIP
The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation announced the selection of 60 WW Georgia Teaching Fellows for 2016. Among them was Wexford native Martin Neal. The new Fellows were introduced at an event on June 1 with Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.
The highly competitive program recruits both recent graduates and career changers with strong backgrounds in science, technology, engineering and math— the STEM fields— and prepares them specifically to teach in high-need secondary schools.
Each Fellow received $ 30,000 to complete a specially designed, cutting-edge master’ s degree program based on a year-long classroom experience. In return, Fellows commit to teach for three years in the urban and rural Georgia schools that most need strong STEM teachers. Throughout the threeyear commitment, Fellows receive ongoing support and mentoring.
