Matthew chose to renovate an unused classroom in the Venetia Community Center, helping to turn it into an historical room reminiscent of a 1920s classroom. The project entailed plaster repairs, painting, installation of a laminate floor and replacement lighting to replicate the 1920s classroom décor. Matthew managed his team of professionals, scouts, classmates and parent volunteers for over 320 service hours. He notably thanked Lowe’s for material donations and Bill Yagnich and Joe Rauscher for professional service donations as well as the many other volunteers that minimized the cost of the project. PETERS TOWNSHIP FARMERS MARKET On May 28 a group of eight moms in partnership with the St. David’s Episcopal Church will be launching a farmers market for Peters Township. The purpose of the market is to provide an opportunity to farmers and artisans in the region to sell what they produce directly to South Hills & Peters residents. The Board of Directors is made up of eight local volunteer moms and Rev. Kris McInnes. The nine of them share a passion for sustainable farming and buying local fresh products for their families. They hope to encourage relationships between producer and consumer and limit the distance food and goods travel from farm to table. “St. David’s Episcopal Church is always looking for ways to foster community. We are blessed with a lot of land and thought a market would be a great way to use it. What most excites me is the opportunity to provide a place for our neighbors to gather and build relationships while also increasing their access to local produce and goods. We believe that a strong community is built on strong relationships and our hope is that the Peters Township Farmers Market will be one more way for us to grow together,” said Rev. Kris McInnes. The Peters Township Farmers Market will be held every Wednesday from 3 – 7 p.m. at St. David’s Episcopal Church at 905 E. McMurray Rd., Venetia, PA 15367. The market will begin on May 28 and continue through September 24.
