Installation Guidelines( Part 5 in a Six-Part Series)

As we enter the fall and colder months ahead, I thought it would be appropriate to shift gears from talking about window and door products to delve into the importance of a proper installation. You can buy the best windows or doors in the world, but if they’ re not put in right, you could actually end up worse off!
Just like windows and doors come in many different price points and levels of quality, so too do installation teams. Experience levels can vary widely … heck, everyone has to start somewhere. However, when you’ re talking about your most valuable investment, it would be nice to not have a rookie in charge of making sure your job is done right.
As a starting point, it is important to note that installation procedures can vary for different brands and types of windows and doors. By hiring a company that has been certified or otherwise trained by the manufacturer of the product you are buying, you are better assured that the installers will follow the correct steps. This will help to ensure a great-looking installation that allows for the smooth and proper operation of your new windows or doors while also maximizing their energy efficiency.
A proper installation of new windows and doors will include inspecting the opening to ensure that any rotted wood is replaced, perimeter insulation, proper sealing, and the cleanup and removal of all job-related debris.
Additionally, on top of the basic installation of the product, there are other considerations: What will the interior look like when they are done? Is there any need for exterior trim, and if so, how will it be done? Making sure you ask detailed questions about how the project will be done and what to expect in the end will help to ensure that you get what you are expecting rather than an unwelcome surprise.
As a final thought, make sure you’ re confident that you are working with professionals who you feel will treat your home the same way( or better) than they would treat their own home, or perhaps their mother’ s or grandmother’ s home.
This includes putting down proper protection for floors, putting necessary barriers in place if dealing with an area that has old leadbased paint, respecting the peace of your home by not blasting music
or continually cursing while working, cleaning up at the end of each workday, and generally leaving the place( other than the beautiful new products they just installed) the same way they found it.
At Legacy, we make sure to check all of the boxes mentioned above. That— along with only offering the highest-quality products, with outstanding warranties— allows us to offer a Lifetime No Service Charge policy on our window and door products. Our teams are experts on the specific products they’ re installing and know how to do the job right! Your home is your baby, and your most valuable investment. Hire a company with staff who will treat it like their own. You deserve it.
