Maria was an orthodontic professor at the University of Pittsburgh , her dental school alma mater . “ I miss my teaching days at Pitt ,” she says , “ but I find myself educating my patients and their parents during their orthodontic journey by answering their questions and concerns just as I used to do at Pitt .”

She replies , “ The American Association of Orthodontists recommends the age of 7 as the ideal age for an orthodontic evaluation , because certain dental problems such as cross-bite , underbite , crowding , certain habits , etc . require early orthodontic treatment before they get worse and therefore are harder to treat later .”
