“I think the group is important because it teaches kids how to become a leader
and work with others as a team,” says Beck. “It’s also an outlet for students who love
STEM-related subjects and challenges. I think it’s important to have something like
this available in our community and I feel lucky to have the team available to me.”
The team’s always looking to expand its logistical and financial support for STEM
education in the community. “With a sturdier team, we can kickstart and equip
more FLL teams and reach more kids,” she explains. Future plans also include
teaching a larger quantity and variety of workshops throughout the community.
“As the only FRC team in our area, we have taken up the long-term goal of starting
other FIRST teams,” says Ethan Schrim, a senior from Pittsburgh. “To accomplish
all of these goals, we need sponsors, dedicated members, and a community willing
to learn.” ■
