Sweet Stanley Cup

Township Resident Sylvia Bernassoli recently donated a Sarris Candies’ Chocolate Stanley Cup to the Peters Township Police Department. The Police Department sure had fun hoisting the cup this summer! In 2016, Bernassoli made a monetary donation to the Police Department. She has showed enormous generosity to the Police Department, and deserves recognition for her efforts. She is always looking for ways to assist and honor the Department, and bring a smile to faces of the officers. Thank you, Sylvia! eters Township

Police Department Receives Tourniquet Donation from Residents

Rachel Wilson, her husband, Bud, and her daughter, Alexandra, recently purchased and donated rapid application tourniquet systems( RATS) for each of the 27 Peters Township Police Officers. The Wilsons are proud Peters Township residents always looking for ways to help the community. Rachel was able to secure the tourniquets by partnering with the organization Bleed Blue, which has a goal of trying to secure 100,000 RATS and place them in the hands of Law Enforcement Officers around the nation.
A rapid application tourniquet system is often not in the budget for Police Departments as funds are often used for vehicles and other equipment. However, to Rachel and many others across the nation, these“ RATS” as she refers to them, are vital. The RAT is a flat bungee tourniquet that is made of a half-inch flat bungee cord. It has a locking system that is unique in that it is very simple, and can be rapidly applied with one hand. If an officer is shot, or wounded by some other means, the RAT is intended to stop the bleeding. Additionally, if an officer comes upon a scene and a citizen is in need, the officer can apply the RAT while awaiting Emergency Medical Services.
Rachel has been working with Bleed Blue in an attempt to raise awareness across the nation.“ Police Officers take an oath to help protect and serve us( citizens) and it is vital for us to do the same,” says Wilson. One of Wilson’ s favorite quotes that sums up her efforts is of Margaret Mead, who said“ Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’ s the only thing that ever has.” Wilson believes,“ With all of us working together, we can make a difference.”
Rachel and her family have also provided additional RATS to the neighboring Canonsburg Police Department citing that they, too, were in need of RATS. So again, this past summer, she and her daughter, Alexandra, drove to the Canonsburg Police Station and presented Chief Coghill with six RATS that his department was in need of.
Rachel’ s current project involves NuStats which she explained are hemostatic dressings used for penetrating trauma wounds. Her goal is to attempt to ensure that all officers in the Peters Township and Canonsburg Police Departments have them on their person at all times. As of this writing, she has secured ten of them. She is also working on raising awareness on a national level of the need for many police departments to have body armor easily accessible to each officer.
Rachel encourages other citizens to help this grass roots effort, and welcomes those interested to contact her via e-mail at rwilsonconsulting @ comcast. net, referencing police in the subject heading.
