Take a Trip to the Strip
The Terminal has revitalized Pittsburgh ’ s Strip District while making sure to preserve its rich history .
If it ’ s been a while since you ’ ve ventured downtown to Pittsburgh ’ s historic Strip District , well , you might not quite recognize it ! Don ’ t worry — the nostalgia is still there , but with a new look .
A little over a year ago , the Strip District reopened , introducing “ The Terminal ,” which is said to balance the needs of the future with the pleasures of the past . The revitalization provides a mix of retail , dining and office , and uniquely offers an aesthetic experience with spotlights on local and contemporary art . It ’ s pedestrianfocused and easy to enjoy with something for just about anyone ’ s tastes , and new businesses continue to open frequently .
The reimagined space — almost 100 years old and once known as “ the produce terminal ”— spans from 16th to 21st streets along Smallman Street . The revitalization project was taken on by McCaffery Interests , Inc . with several other upgrades to the area in progress , including extending the existing terminal docks to create outdoor dining and activity areas at each of the new pedestrian passageways at 17th , 18th and 20th streets . Additionally , new
ramps and stairs with integrated bench seating will give visitors a comfortable spot to enjoy the exciting vibe of the Strip District .
New events , festivals and programs are being scheduled often , and plans to feature live , local performers — everything from musicians to jugglers to cartoonists — are in full swing . “ Terminal Tuesdays ” offer deals and discounts each week , and fitness classes of every variety are options regularly . As if that ’ s not enough , a farmers market takes place on the third Saturday of each month and a Women-Owned Market and Concert Series will be held June through September .
