The entire display was and has continued to be an all-day community- oriented event. From businesses to restaurants, clubs, Scout groups, churches and more, the Township and all of its eclectic offerings is highlighted in a beautiful way. Today, it continues to be co- sponsored by Peters Township Parks and Recreation and the Peters Township Chamber of Commerce. “We have a volunteer committee with seven active members who help plan and run the event, and the Parks and Recreation staff are the most involved with the planning and implementation of the entire day,” explains Michele Harmel, Parks and Recreation Director. “Many other Township departments help to make this event possible, including the Peters Township Fire Department, the Peters Township Police Department, and especially the Public Works Department and Park Maintenance staff. The event would not be possible without the many dedicated volunteers who come to help on the day of the event.” This year’s 40th celebration will not disappoint. Attendees can expect all of the wonderful activities that Community Day has grown accustomed to offering— from games for all ages, to delicious food and local organization booths. This year will include new entertainment throughout the day and participation from all stretches of the Township. “I still love to attend Community Day each year,” says Pigman. “It’s something for all of the residents of Peters Township to look forward to, and each year I run into someone I haven’t seen for some time and enjoy catching up with them.” “Community Day enhances a sense of community by bringing all aspects of the Township together,” adds Silvestri. “In the suburbs, it’s difficult to promote an overall community identity and this event helps to do that each year.” “The event is an opportunity to showcase our beautiful community— our wonderful park, local businesses and organizations, and our residents,” says Harmel. “It provides joy to people of all ages and entertains different interests—really bringing people together.” n 40th Annual Peters Township Community Day Saturday, June 30 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 700 Meredith Drive, Venetia, PA 15367 Visit peterstownship.com for more information.
