WHY PARTICIPATE IN A LIBRARY SUMMER READING
PROGRAM? Studies show that access to books is critical for reading success to happen. The public library is an excellent, free resource offering books on a wide range of subjects and reading levels. Skilled Youth Services librarians help guide children and families in selecting great books! Summer reading programs are designed to show kids that reading is a treat as they explore the shelves looking for their next favorite book. Reading over the summer helps prevent the“ summer slide” in children’ s reading achievement scores.
