Great American Clean Up / Special
Recycling Event April 21, 2018
Thank you to all of the volunteers and community organizations that participated
in the annual Great American Clean Up Day, hosted by the Peters Township
Environmental Quality Board. A number of residents and groups such as
the McMurray Rotary Club and Cub Scout Pack 1313 took to the streets and
neighborhoods of Peters Township to clean up trash, litter, and debris. Thank you to
everyone involved for a great and worthwhile event!
At the Special Recycling Event held at the Public Works Garage, residents dropped
off around 40 unwanted/damaged bicycles. Volunteers, led by Township resident Bill
Shader, repair them, and donate them to several local charities. Residents recycled
a variety of other items including 70 tires, 12 automotive batteries, and various
amounts of scrap metal.
Residents also dropped off a large number of electronic devices; a total of 24 double
stacked pallets were filled with televisions, computers, and electronics. These
items are not accepted curbside by Waste Management due to state law (Covered
Electronic Device Recycling Act).
