STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS

STUDENT ART SELECTED FOR HOLIDAY CARD
The Peters Township Police Department worked with McMurray Art Teacher Kelly Rutkowski for their annual holiday card design contest . Of the nearly 200 submitted entries , 5th grader Helen Youschak from Mrs . Skrok ’ s homeroom was announced as the winner . In addition to having her artwork on the Police Department card , she received a framed copy of her artwork , a $ 25 gift card and her homeroom received a pizza party at lunch courtesy of the Police Department .
CALCUSOLVE WINNER
Members of the PTHS Math Club , Avery DeSaw , Connor Seaman , Kaitlyn Strine and Joshua Zheng , competed in the Allegheny County CalcuSolve competition . Out of the 50 teams and almost 200 participants , junior Joshua Zheng earned a first place score in the competition .
PHYSICS PHUN PHEST
It ’ s not the holidays without the Phabulous Physics Phun Phest at the High School . Events throughout the week included a can rolling contest for distance ; launchers for distance and accuracy , spaghetti towers and the toilet paper challenge . All cans brought in by our physics classes were donated to the Washington County Food Bank to supplement meals for the holiday season .
A veterinarian who visited Career Day brought a special guest .
MCMURRAY CAREER DAY
On December 13th McMurray Elementary hosted their annual Career Day event . Students rotated through presentations from these community volunteers and learned about fields in science , medicine , technology , public service and the culinary arts . It is a great opportunity to help students learn more about possible careers , and the training and education required for each of them .
ECONOMICS FAIR AT PLEASANT VALLEY Following their study of economic principles , third grade students at Pleasant Valley were challenged to create their own products . Students not only produced their products , but they had to market them with their own advertising and sales plan . Following the presentations , students had some time to “ shop ” and purchase products from their classmates .

PTMS students enjoyed the Trolley Museum Field trip .
SIXTH GRADE FIELD TRIP
Our 6th grade students visited the Trolley Museum in Washington where they took part in two circuitry STEAM design challenges , as well as a historical scavenger hunt . There was also an electronic trolley conductor simulator , where participants learned about response times and signaling . Students even had a chance to walk through decades of rail cars , wrapping up their learning experience with a 5-mile excursion on a 1926 trolley .
FRENCH STUDENTS WORK WITH INTERNATIONAL RELIEF GROUPS
Students in Mrs . Chenevert ’ s French IV class are learning about communities , community engagement and service work . They have been working in small groups to research nonprofit groups operating in a francophone place in the world . Students present their organization to the class and the class vote to determine which organization they would like to support with a service project . Recently , juniors Olivia Gang , Macie Augustynowicz , and Dana Anderson chose S . E . E . D . Madagascar and worked with Mark Jacobs , the Managing Director of this organization , to speak to the class via video chat about their work building environmental friendly schools .
EDUCATION FOUNDATION STUDENT BOARD MEMBERS
The PT Education Foundation officially welcomed our student members for the 2024-25 school year - Jack Reiser and Natalie Chapas . Each year students apply for board positions and two are selected to assist in all Foundation efforts , including the Educational Grants that are awarded each January .
TRADE AND TECHNICAL FAIR
Peters Township High School hosted the 5th Annual Trade and Technical Fair at the school . PT students , as well as students from around the area , were invited to talk with professionals about the high demand opportunities available in the trades .
BOWER HILL READ-A-THON
Bower Hill students did an outstanding job on their Read-a-Thon . Thank you to the PTA , families , teachers and staff for their efforts , encouragement and generosity . Bower Hill students read for a total of 245,328 minutes and raised $ 28,604 for our PTA . This is the school ’ s only fundraiser for the school year .
