The Inheritance: A Family on the Front Lines of the Battle Against Alzheimer’ s Disease
Tuesday, Apr. 4 7 to 8:30 p. m.
Alzheimer’ s is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only cause of death in the top 10 without any way to stop or slow it down. The Inheritance, by Niki Kapsambelis, follows the DeMoe family of North Dakota as they struggle with the most devastating form of the disease; an inherited genetic mutation that causes the disease in 100 percent of all cases, striking its victims in their 40s, killing them in their 50s. Multiple generations of the DeMoe family are participating in a worldwide study that seeks to find a treatment for Alzheimer’ s by 2025. Robin McIntyre, 33, and her sister Jessica, 36, are two members of the DeMoe family who will appear with author Niki Kapsambelis at this event. The Inheritance follows this family’ s courageous journey into Alzheimer’ s research and the dramatic history of this disease. Book signing and reception to follow program.
Niki Kapsambelis was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She worked for several years as a newswoman for the Associated Press in New England, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh. Her work has appeared in publications around the world, including The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and People magazine. She lives in Mt. Lebanon.

This hands-on program is to provide career development to individuals who are looking to secure employment. The class consists of 5 sessions which include how to create a resume, cover letter, and reference page; what to do prior to, during and after the interview; learning the necessary language for the interview and skillfully selling yourself.
Lisa Raymond has over twenty years of experience in Human Resources and has been a business owner since 1998. She is the author of It’ s Your Job, a quick tip guide for those entering the job market or brushing up on skills. She received a Master’ s Degree in Leadership Business and Global Ethics from Duquesne University, has trained under Anthony Robbins, and currently teaches Public Speaking and Persuasion, and Professional Communications at Robert Morris University. Registration and payment must be received by Friday, Feb. 17.

Meet author Steve Hallock and Forensic Science expert Raymond Hsieh in a discussion of solving a local 34 year old
Cold Case – Justice Delayed: The Catherine Janet Walsh Story. Several members of California University of Pennsylvania Forensic Science Club will be available before the program and following the program.
Dr. Steve Hallock, author of the book Justice Delayed: The Catherine Janet Walsh Story, will speak about his book and the effects of murder on a small close-knit community of friends, relatives and neighbors in Monaca, PA. Dr. Hallock is director of the graduate studies program for the School of Communication at Point Park University and has a Ph. D. in Journalism from Ohio University.
Dr. Raymond Hsieh will speak about the role of Forensic Science in solving the Catherine Janet Walsh case. Dr. Hsieh will discuss what makes up trace evidence and biological evidence. Dr. Hsieh is a Professor in Criminal Justice and Forensic Science at California University of Pennsylvania and Director of Justice Studies. He is certified as a Computer Forensic Examiner and holds numerous professional forensic certifications. Dr. Hsieh has a Ph. D. in Communication Technology from The State University of New York at Buffalo.
Angela Novak, President, California University of Pennsylvania Forensic Science Club, will facilitate the student participation for this event. Student research topics / trifold displays include Autopsy, Forensic Anthropology, DNA, Digital Forensics, Evidence and Mock Crime Scene.
