BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

SPONSORED CONTENT or over three decades, The Watchful Shepherd USA, located in McMurray, has been dedicated to protecting children and families affected by abuse and neglect. Established 32 years ago, this local nonprofit has become a vital resource in safeguarding some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
Serving families throughout Peters Township, Washington County, and 12 surrounding counties, The Watchful Shepherd has stood at the forefront of child protection— providing not only immediate access to emergency response but also a mission that no child should ever feel alone or unsafe.
Central to the organization’ s work is an electronic alarm system that serves as a direct lifeline in times of fear or danger. The device, available as both an in-home unit and a portable mobile unit, can be activated with the press of a single button. When a child or family member feels threatened, the system sends an instant alert to local law enforcement, prompting a rapid response.
This immediate connection can mean the difference between harm and safety. For families living with an ongoing fear of abuse or domestic violence, simply knowing help is available at any moment brings comfort, stability, and peace of mind.
The goal of The Watchful Shepherd’ s tool is simple yet powerful:“ Where it goes, the abuse stops.” By equipping at-risk children and domestic violence victims with a reliable way to summon help, the organization helps break cycles of abuse and restores a sense of safety and control within the home. Many families have shared that just knowing help is instantly accessible gave them confidence and allowed the process of healing to begin.
The organization’ s impact extends far beyond emergency response. Working closely with law enforcement, child protective services, and family support agencies, The Watchful Shepherd ensures continued care beyond the immediate crisis, making it a trusted partner in long-term child and family safety.
Celebrating Community Through Dance
In October, The Watchful Shepherd hosted its annual Dancing for a Cause event at the Hilton Garden Inn – Southpointe. The evening was full of energy and celebration, featuring choreographed performances
by professional dancers from Arthur Murray in McMurray, the Dance by Cami Showdolls, and local celebrity dancers who trained and fundraised for the cause. Guests also enjoyed raffles, auctions, dinner, and the engaging presence of Kelly Dzanji, who emceed the event with warmth and enthusiasm.
Next year, Dancing for a Cause will return on Oct. 16. In addition, this spring The Watchful Shepherd will host its second annual Heroes and Crowns: A Ball for a Cause, coinciding with Child Abuse Prevention Month. Both events celebrate community spirit and the power of collective action.
