Peters Township Participates in ICMA EXCHANGE PROGRAM
This past September , the City of Pittsburgh proudly hosted the annual conference of the International City / County Manager Association ( ICMA ). The ICMA is a professional organization that serves local government professionals , providing them with resources , training , and networking opportunities to enhance their skills and improve the quality of governance in their communities . The conference brings together city and county managers , assistant managers , and other local government officials from across the country to share best practices , discuss pressing issues , and collaborate on innovative solutions .
As part of this year ’ s conference and the ICMA Assistants ’ Exchange program , Peters Township had the honor of hosting two assistant managers : Caitlin Gard , Assistant City Manager in Merriam , Kansas , and Benjamin Young , Deputy Administrator in North Canton , Ohio . The Township organized a comprehensive tour to showcase how Peters Township is governed and to provide insights into its local government operations .
The tour began with a bike trip to Always-B-Smiling , a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing inclusive programming and support for young adults with disabilities and their families . This visit highlighted Peters Township ’ s commitment to community inclusivity and support for all residents . Following this , the group made a stop at the Greer
Tunnel along the Arrowhead Trail , where they learned about the Montour Trail Council ’ s efforts to raise funds for the restoration of this historic tunnel . This project exemplifies the importance of preserving local heritage while enhancing recreational opportunities for the community .
Next , the tour included a visit to the Peters Township Community Television at Peters Township High School , where the assistant managers observed how local media plays a vital role in community engagement and information dissemination . The group also attended a presentation by the Peters Township Fire Department , gaining insights into the department ’ s operations and community safety initiatives . Finally , the tour concluded with a visit to the Peters Township Public Library , showcasing the resources and programs available to residents .
Throughout the day , Ms . Gard and Mr . Young had the unique opportunity to discuss the challenges faced by their respective communities and collaborate with Peters Township staff on successful initiatives being implemented in their areas . This exchange of ideas and experiences fostered valuable connections among like-minded professionals dedicated to improving local governance .
The event not only allowed Peters Township to showcase its strengths and community resources but also reinforced the importance of collaboration among local government leaders . Peters Township looks forward to participating in similar events in the future , as they provide an excellent platform for sharing knowledge and building relationships that benefit communities both near and far .
