THE SWEET SOUNDS
OF ROOM 100
Peters Township High School’s Room 100
recently made their debut performance with
their arrangement of “Don’t Know Why”
originally sung by Norah Jones. Room 100 is
the stage name for the Acapella Adrenaline
class at PTHS. The group was going on to
compete at the Kettering Festival in Dayton,
Ohio, in November. For more information

Alexis is a sophomore at Peters Township
High School. She is involved in numerous
activities and maintains a 4.0 GPA, taking
honors classes and one AP class. She
participates in the Varsity Dance Team,
Rowdy Rhythm a cappella choir, symphonic
choir, school and community theater,
Pittsburgh Performing Arts Studio, ballet
and jazz classes at Kickline Dance Studio and
Student Council.
Alexis has sung the national anthem two
years in a row for Pirates games and has
performed “God Bless America” as well.
Locally, she also sung the anthem for Peters
Township’s Annual Community Day and
9/11 Remembrance events.

PERFORMS AT NASCAR
RACE IN TEXAS
Alexis DiLucia was selected to sing at a
NASCAR race in Dallas, Texas, that was
televised on Saturday, Nov. 5. She sent in a
recording of her singing the national anthem
at the Pittsburgh Pirates game on Aug. 21,
and was chosen from a pool of applicants
from across the United States.

A team from Pittsburgh competed in the
USTA Junior Team Tennis 14U National
Championships, held at the Cayce Tennis
Center in Cayce, SC, Oct. 13 through 16.
The 2016 USTA Junior Team Tennis 14U
National Championships brought together
the top 32 teams (250 players) at intermediate
and advanced levels from various USTA
Sections throughout the country.
The team is coached by John Rush and
features members Jennifer Grainger (Upper
St. Clair), Anna Rush (Upper St. Clair),
Evelyn Safar (Wexford), Tara Thomas (Erie),
Ellian Ascencio (Peters Township), Chase
Davidson (Bradford Woods), Matthew
Prenovitz (Erie) and Thomas Prichard (Erie).
The National Championships serves as the
crown jewel of USTA Junior Team Tennis
as the nation’s top teams compete for the

title. Each year the USTA crowns a national
champion in two age divisions (14U and
18U) in both the Intermediate and Advanced
play divisions.
“The National Championships is a yearly
capstone event where every team has had a
similar yet different path to make it to the
event through their respective sections,” says
Matt Barnhart, National Manager for USTA
Junior Team Tennis. “The players really enjoy
the competition aspect as well as getting the
chance to bond with other players from all
over the country on and off the court.”
Established in 1991, USTA Junior Team
Tennis provides youth with all of the health
and social benefits of tennis in a coed, fun
and competitive team environment – all while
allowing participants to compete with
and against individuals of similar ages and
skill levels.
